The small square format of this landscape creates an iconic feeling to me, and I used a gold metallic watercolor crayon for the clouds to add to that impression. The curve on the right is not the river, but Highway 12 in southeastern Montana. This country is sparsely populated, which is one of the things I like the most about it.
Bowman artist Cris Fulton loves the grasslands and badlands country of southwestern North Dakota, northwestern South Dakota, and southeastern Montana. She considers the magnificent prairie landscape of the Little Missouri, Powder, and Yellowstone rivers to be her own artistic backyard. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Dakota, and has been an artist and photographer throughout her life. "To me, this territory is nothing less than a prairie paradise, a garden of Eden, and a heaven on earth. People who have grown up in this remarkable region affectionately call it "God's Country." This is a very rugged, yet vulnerable landscape; one that I fervently hope will be preserved for its majestic beauty and its capacity...
