This landscape is similar to one that I created several years ago. The slopes had been drawn with red and purple, but I didn't like the way the grass looked. I thought maybe it would be my last image with altered colors. Then, one night I glanced at it casually, and thought that I might be able to salvage it if I cut it up into smaller pieces. That was the start of my small square format paintings.
Bowman artist Cris Fulton loves the grasslands and badlands country of southwestern North Dakota, northwestern South Dakota, and southeastern Montana. She considers the magnificent prairie landscape of the Little Missouri, Powder, and Yellowstone rivers to be her own artistic backyard. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Dakota, and has been an artist and photographer throughout her life. "To me, this territory is nothing less than a prairie paradise, a garden of Eden, and a heaven on earth. People who have grown up in this remarkable region affectionately call it "God's Country." This is a very rugged, yet vulnerable landscape; one that I fervently hope will be preserved for its majestic beauty and its capacity...
