Description
Country roads in southwestern North Dakota are covered with chunks of scoria, creating beautiful rusty pink routes through the badlands and grasslands of the region. Scoria was formed when underground coal seams were ignited by lighting and the surrounding clay was burned. Kind of a large ceramic kiln operation by Mother Nature.
