There were several bur-covered buffalo bulls moving through the autumn prairie in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This one paused at just the right time to have his eye framed by the grass.

No matter how many times I've been through Theodore Roosevelt National Park, it's always a delight to see the buffalo. I've had the chance to see them running along the river, walking through frosty grass, wallowing in the dirt, and bellowing and fighting during the rut. They bring a sense of the wild prairie to life.
